This is an old mining town. It is now a environmental and biological research center. Lots of young hippie-like kids roaming the countryside in search of creatures small and large. Every 4th of July, a "marathon" is run from Gothic to Crested Butte." Participants in the "marathon" can either run, walk, and/or crawl. Upon further inquiry, the run is not an actual marathon, but one-third of a marathon which equals 8.73333333333 miles.
