Left around 1 pm to head for Sun Valley, Idaho. Sun Valley is square in my life that I wanted to fill before I die. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to see Sun Valley because I remember, obviously a false memory, the winter olympics being held there and Dorothy Hammil skated. I still can see her with her cute little bob spinning and twirling across the ice. The drive to Sun Valley followed the Salmon River which ends near Sun Valley (the headwaters) The river is referred to as "the river of no return." I arrived in Sun Valley, went to the grocery store and found a campsite as it was rapidly approaching night. I am now sitting at a picnic table jotting down my thoughts. Tomorrow is off to see the ski resort and olympic park and then on to a new adventures.
Sunday morning – brewed some coffee on the propane stove, took Belle for a walk by the river and sat by the river and enjoyed my coffee. I then went into town for breakfast. I then headed to the visitors' center for information on the “Olympic Village”. There is no such a thing. The olympics were never held here. In fact, Dorothy Hamill won the gold in figure skating in 1977 in Innsbruck. Oh well. I swear she skated in Sun Valley.
Drove back to Flaming Gorge, Wyoming. The first time through it was getting dark and I was frantically looking for a hotel/motel room. I was praying for a shower and a real bed. That was the Dick “Haliburton” story. I'm in a beautiful canyon surrounded by red cliffs. Sitting here by the fire as Belle lounges in the tent. Plan to take Belle for a long hike in the morning and enjoy the lake.
